Buyer Agreement

Last Updated: 15 October 2026

This Buyer Agreement ("Agreement") is entered into between Madeinafrica.io ("Platform") and the individual or business entity registering as a Buyer ("Buyer", "you") upon acceptance during the registration process.

1. Scope

1.1 This Agreement governs your use of the Platform as a Buyer, including product search, RFQ submission, supplier communication, and trade planning. Live escrow and Trade Assurance payment protection are not currently available.

2. Registration and Verification

2.1 You may register as a Buyer with an email address and basic company information.

2.2 To access full features (RFQ submission, Trade Assurance, priority supplier responses), you must complete Buyer Verification at the appropriate level (Email Verified, Phone Verified, Business Verified, or Fully Verified).

2.3 You represent that you are registering for legitimate B2B purchasing purposes and not for competitive intelligence, spam, or any other non-commercial purpose.

3. RFQs and Inquiries

3.1 You may submit RFQs describing your sourcing requirements. RFQs must be genuine, specific, and related to actual purchasing intent.

3.2 You agree not to submit fraudulent, misleading, or duplicate RFQs.

3.3 You acknowledge that Suppliers may charge Credits to respond to your RFQs. Abusive or frivolous RFQs waste Supplier resources and may result in account suspension.

4. Trade Orders and Payments

4.1 When you place or record a Trade Order through the Platform, confirm payment arrangements directly with the other party. Platform order records do not themselves collect or confirm payment.

4.2 Live escrow funding is not currently available. Do not send money to the Platform on the assumption that funds will be held in escrow.

4.3 Agree inspection, delivery, dispute, and payment terms directly with the supplier in a written contract. Platform dispute records do not freeze funds or automatically release payments.

4.4 Use safe, documented payment arrangements and independently verify the counterparty and payment instructions before transferring funds.

5. Trade Assurance

5.1 Trade Assurance payment protection is not currently available. Any supplier verification badge is a separate status and must not be interpreted as a payment guarantee.

5.2 The Platform does not currently provide escrow custody, payment protection, or Trade Assurance refunds. No claim is covered by a live Trade Assurance service.

5.3 Buyers and suppliers should agree product specifications, delivery, inspection, payment, and dispute terms in a separate written contract and independently verify counterparties and payment instructions.

5.4 Platform dispute tools may help record information but do not freeze funds, determine legal liability, or guarantee a refund.

6. Reviews

6.1 After completing a Trade Order, you may leave a review and rating for the Supplier.

6.2 Reviews must be honest, accurate, and based on your actual experience. Fake, defamatory, or retaliatory reviews will be removed and may result in account suspension.

7. Limitation of Liability

7.1 The Platform facilitates trade but is not a party to your transactions with Suppliers. We do not guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of any Product.

7.2 The Platform may provide tools to record communications or disputes, but this does not replace your contractual or legal remedies and no escrow refund process is currently available.

8. Termination

8.1 You may close your account at any time. Resolve any outstanding contractual matters directly with the relevant trading party before closing your account. The Platform does not currently hold escrow funds.

9. Governing Law

9.1 This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

Escrow on Made in Africa

What is escrow?

Escrow is a neutral holding arrangement. When you pay for a trade, your money is held securely by a regulated third party — not released to the supplier immediately. The supplier ships. You confirm the goods arrived as agreed. Only then are funds released. If something goes wrong, the money is still there while the dispute is resolved.

Why we use it

  • For buyers: you do not pay a stranger and hope. Funds move only when you confirm delivery.
  • For suppliers: you do not ship on a promise. The buyer's funds are verified and held before you dispatch.
  • For both: disputes are resolved against a held balance, not a vanished payment.
  • Cross-border safety: escrow removes the trust gap in SADC trade where buyer and supplier may never meet.

How a protected trade works

  1. 1

    Buyer pays into escrow

Funds are held by our payments partner.

  2. 2

    Supplier ships

With a verified, held balance as proof of commitment.

  3. 3

    Buyer confirms delivery

Funds released to the supplier. Dispute? Resolution starts within 14 days.

Escrow payments are handled by TradeSafe, our third-party escrow provider.

Made in Africa is connected to TradeSafe in test mode, so no real buyer funds are collected or held yet. Made in Africa never holds, freezes or releases buyer funds itself, and is not an escrow agent.

Full terms are set out in our Escrow Policy. Escrow availability may vary by country and trade value.
