Trade Assurance

Know who you are trading with before you pay.

Check business verification and order records before trading. Live escrow funding, payment protection and payouts are unavailable until a real provider is configured and tested; this page is not a guarantee of protection.

Live escrow funding and payouts are still being connected. This page sets out eligibility and process; it does not itself confirm a payment or place an order.

What gets checked

Four layers of verification

Business identity

Company registration details and supporting documents are reviewed before a supplier carries Verified status.

Buyer verification

Email, phone, company registration and trade references can each be confirmed on your account.

Trade Assurance eligibility

A supplier earns the badge after five or more completed escrow transactions with no disputes.

Escrow-backed payment

Unavailable until a real provider is configured and tested. The Platform does not currently provide custody of buyer funds.

Before you pay

How to verify a transaction

01

Check the supplier

Look for the Trade Assurance badge and the verification status on the supplier profile before agreeing anything.

02

Agree the order in writing

Confirm specification, quantity, price, Incoterms and delivery dates in the conversation or on the quotation.

03

Pay into escrow

Unavailable at present. Provider custody and payment terms must be confirmed before any escrow payment.

04

Document the outcome

Agree inspection and dispute steps directly with your trading partner. Platform dispute records do not freeze or release funds.

Protected where it matters

  • • Live escrow custody and buyer payment protection are currently unavailable.
  • • Proposed release rules are not active while live escrow is unavailable.
  • • Fee estimates are planning information until a live payment provider and final terms are confirmed.
  • • Order records are for documentation and do not confirm payment or custody of funds.

When something goes wrong

You may record a dispute with available evidence. This does not freeze funds or guarantee a refund. Agree immediate next steps directly with your trading partner and seek independent advice if needed.

Frequently asked

What does the Trade Assurance badge mean?+

No live escrow-backed Trade Assurance is currently available. Check the supplier’s actual verification status and supporting evidence independently before entering a transaction.

Does it cover every order?+

No. Live escrow and Trade Assurance payment protection are not currently available on this platform.

What if the goods do not match the specification?+

Keep evidence and contact the seller promptly. You may record a dispute in the platform, but no funds are held or frozen and live escrow refunds are unavailable.

Where can I check a supplier before I pay?+

Review the supplier profile, available verification status, company documents, and official registration sources. A profile or badge is not a payment guarantee.

Escrow on Made in Africa

Read the full escrow guide

What is escrow?

Escrow is a neutral holding arrangement. When you pay for a trade, your money is held securely by a regulated third party — not released to the supplier immediately. The supplier ships. You confirm the goods arrived as agreed. Only then are funds released. If something goes wrong, the money is still there while the dispute is resolved.

Why we use it

  • For buyers: you do not pay a stranger and hope. Funds move only when you confirm delivery.
  • For suppliers: you do not ship on a promise. The buyer's funds are verified and held before you dispatch.
  • For both: disputes are resolved against a held balance, not a vanished payment.
  • Cross-border safety: escrow removes the trust gap in SADC trade where buyer and supplier may never meet.

How a protected trade works

  1. 1

    Buyer pays into escrow

Funds are held by our payments partner.

  2. 2

    Supplier ships

With a verified, held balance as proof of commitment.

  3. 3

    Buyer confirms delivery

Funds released to the supplier. Dispute? Resolution starts within 14 days.

Escrow payments are handled by TradeSafe, our third-party escrow provider.

Made in Africa is connected to TradeSafe in test mode, so no real buyer funds are collected or held yet. Made in Africa never holds, freezes or releases buyer funds itself, and is not an escrow agent.

Full terms are set out in our Escrow Policy. Escrow availability may vary by country and trade value.
